Spotlight on Boulder City

Boulder City is a charming and quaint town located near Lake Mead. With a population of approximately 15,000 residents, it’s the kind of place where locals know each other and small businesses thrive. Even though Boulder City is close to Las Vegas, and just over the hill from the outskirts of Henderson - it’s a completely different lifestyle.

If you’re considering relocating to the area, you’ll find a variety of wonderful neighborhoods; including custom homes with golf course or lake views, to mid-twentieth century bungalows in the heart of historic downtown. Many residents enjoy living in this smaller community, while remaining close to amenities in Las Vegas and Henderson.

If you’re looking for a great day trip, check out these fun things to do in Boulder City.

Hemenway Park
This lovely park is known for its large population of Bighorn sheep who freely roam throughout the grassy lawn. Situated at a slightly higher elevation, the sweeping views of Lake Mead are beautiful. The park has a playground, covered picnic areas, tennis courts, and a softball field.

To watch the Bighorn Sheep from your desk, view the “Ram Cam.”

Historic Downtown
Along Nevada Avenue and the connecting side streets, explore an assortment of antique stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and taverns. As an artistic community, bronze sculptures adorn the sidewalks, and many shops feature works of local artists. After strolling through downtown, make your way to the beautiful, Bicentennial Park, located on Colorado Street. This park is surrounded by both historic homes and city buildings, such as the post office and recreation center.

Golfing in Boulder City
There are five gorgeous golf courses in Boulder City; including the Boulder City Golf Course, Cascata, and Boulder Creek Golf Club ( which includes Coyote Run, Eldorado Valley and Desert Hawk.)

While all courses are public, Boulder City Golf Course is owned and operated by the city. This lush oasis of fairways, mature trees and ponds, is located on Buchanan Boulevard, across from Veterans’ Memorial Park.

Veteran’s Memorial Park
This expansive park is 25 acres, with four baseball fields, two volleyball courts, open green spaces, and a fishing pond. Walking trails wind through the park and lead to scenic overlooks of the mountains and desert.

The Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge
One of the best ways to see the Hoover Dam from above is by walking the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge (Officially the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.) This bridge is the second highest bridge in the United States, with a towering height of 890 feet above the Colorado River. Walk just over a mile from Nevada to Arizona, and see the Hoover Dam and flowing river below. The Hoover Dam also has a Visitor’s Center and offers tours.

Bootleg Canyon
In recent years, Boulder City has become a mecca for outdoor adventures. Mountain biking is popular in the desert, and Bootleg Canyon offers some of the most challenging trails in the country. This recreational area also has miles of open hiking trails and giant sculptures of desert animals.

The Hoover Dam Lodge
The Hoover Dam Lodge is a smaller casino and hotel, overlooking Lake Mead, just outside Boulder City on the way to Hoover Dam. The Bighorn Cafe offers a great menu, featuring their specialty “Bighorn” fries.
